serves my needs well
This was my Christmas gift last year. I am the only one who drinks coffee at my house, and usually just 2 cups a day. I love flavored coffees. I used to use a small 4 cup with cone shaped filters and I was so tired of having coffee grounds in my coffee every morning, so Santa bought this one. I love it. Simple to use, works fast and I can switch out flavors easily. I buy my coffee thru Amazon subscription so I don't have to worry about trying to find the cups at the stores.
I have noticed that it seems louder than it was when I first got it, but that doesn't bother me. It's only for a minute. The only thing I don't like is that the water container seems small. I wish it was bigger so I didn't have to refill as often.
They sell a K-cup that you can reuse over and over again with your own coffee rather than buying their cups. I have it, I wasn't impressed with it. It's hard to get the grounds out of it when you want to brew another cup. It seems like you have to clean it after every single use. I buy the cups and save myself some aggravation.

Now that's a good cup of Coffee
If you are in a small office, have different tastes then the rest of your family, or just making one cup at a time then this is the best machine for you. The variety of coffee's, tea's, and hot chocolates made for this machine are top notch. I enjoy being able to have multiple cups a day of different flavors. What can I say this is the perfect coffee maker!!

The Keurig is OVER RATED!
I was at Bed, Bath & Beyond researching these coffee machines to replace my Starbucks Barista one cup/mug coffee maker (that thing makes a mess!). Anyway, there was someone demonstrating the Keurig. She showed me how it worked and made me a cup of coffee. I chose one of those non-popular brands (pumpkin spice), took a sip and wanted to throw it up. It tasted like cheap, truck-stop coffee!
Next to her display area was the Tassimo by Bosch (the newer model). I've already done my homework on this machine and knew that it was the better of the two. Tassimo makes great coffee and more popular brands unlike what Keurig has to offer. I also think that the K pods are clunky with way too much plastic for our landfills. Tassimo made more sense to me. I also like the fact that the Tassimo has a built-in water filter system that tells you when you're low in water. Keurig doesn't have that. All they have is over 130 unpopular coffee brands. Bosch did a great job with their Research & Development (R&D) to re-create this machine. The Braun version of this machine had a lot of problems but Bosch corrected them with this new machine. So, go out and get yourself a Tassimo and don't get the Keurig.

i love this machine we got the b60 and it makes the perfect cup of coffee and tea the earl grey is amazing perfect to the last drop i weighed out the price and for what i spent throwing my reg coffee machine leftovers out or the whole thing if it didnt taste good plus the coffee i brought while out it was well worth it bjs wholesale has a case of 80 for 32.00 but i do like the variety packs and most of them are fair trade which is even better.

A cup of coffee that is good to the last drop!
This is a totally new way for us to make coffee. We used to a Krups 12-cup auto-maker and have used that for years. But as our coffee drinking has slowed, we started looking at options and found one after a weekend trip at a friend's home. They had a Keurig on their counter and we thoroughly enjoyed the variety of flavors available as well as the ease of use. So we bought a B60 model and absolutely love it! A good value product. We have groups of people over for evenings and they like it as well. We use the Krups for decafe and the Keurig for regular since there are less people that want high test coffee after dinner these days. Simple to use and to clean-up, plus we can offer multiple choices of coffee for every taste, any time. We have bought two of the reusable coffee filter units that insert into the Keurig Brewer because the k-cup coffees are expensive by comparison. That way we can get our coffee made in the brewer since it isn't available in the k-cup system as yet.

Safe, Energy Efficient & Quick Results
I have read enough about the health hazards of microwave ovens to send me screaming into the night, and I refuse to use them to heat water.
As for the stovetop, tea kettles tend to corrode and what if you forget to turn the burner off??? This model shuts itself off after the job is finished.
This is my go-to method to heat water. I have one at home and one at my office.
The permanent, reusable filter is another "green" aspect of this product. Depending on what I am brewing, I sometimes choose to use a tea infuser.
Think a little outside the box, and this will work for instant soup, ramen noodles, etc.
I would never go back to either the microwave or the stovetop. This item is a "must-have" for both my home and office.

Great gift
I'm in the process of ordering a 3rd one. Mine is 3 years old and still going strong. I bought one for my dad last year, and ordering one for my brother-in-law this year.
The best feature is the AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF. No more being down the street and wondering if you turned the coffee pot off. Also, being a single person, a pot of coffee went to waste. Even if I want another cup, it's fast, easy, and fresh.
I've never had a problem with "lukewarm" coffee. In fact mine makes it to hot to drink (I'm not a coffee sipper). So I will start it, finish getting dressed, and my coffee is perfect. Also I've never had a problem with spillage.
I don't think you'll be unhappy with this product!

Great product!
I researched a lot of products of this type before deciding to purchase this product. It doesn't require expensive pods or filters, you can grind your favorite beans and pour them right in or use your regular morning blend straight from the grocery store. The travel mug is the perfect size and the stainless steel keeps your coffee at a great temperature even until the last drop. For the price, this a great value. I have used mine every day since it arrived. It took a couple of tries to get the perfect amount of coffee for the size of the cup, but once I figured it out, it has been great. One reviewer mentioned the sturdiness of the mug. The handle must have been what he or she was talking about. I wouldn't want to be rough with the handle, but with normal everyday wear, I think it will still hold up to the usage. Great product - perfect price!

Only If You Don't Want the Coffee Hot
I am not a heavy coffee drinker, but over the last few months I've gotten into the habit of drinking a tall coffee each morning from the store across the street from my job. To save money, I decided I should get a small personal maker for my daily cup. On the surface, this seemed like the idea coffee maker for someone like me as it brews only a single large mug straight into a nice portable mug with a spill-resistant lid. Unfortunately, it has no lived up to its image. The coffee does not come out hot at all, its barely lukewarm as the included mug is not microwave safe, it can't be used to heat the coffee up to the proper temperature. It also is lacking any sort of "keep warm" function, turning itself off before the coffee is even done coming out. I am very disappointed in this particular maker and am returning it. I will say, though, if you don't like your coffee hot, it does brew nicely. The included filter is very easy to clean and works quite well. I just prefer an actual hot cup of coffee.

Nice and adequate
If you're making coffee just for one and don't want to mess with a 12 cup pot and the clean up thereafter, this Black & Decker is a pretty good choice. You do need to stick to the recommended 2 1/2 tablespoons of grind. Otherwise, it just clobbs together and you don't get a full mug of coffee. Clean up is mostly a cinch. The netting on the filter is sturdy for now. I do worry about accidently punching through it one day when I'm not paying attention and scrub too aggressively. (Yes, it will survive the dishwasher fine too. But if you use it everyday like I do, you just end up hand washing.) My only real complaint is that it's a little awkward to clean the inside of the unit itself once you take the basket and filter out. There's the 2nd basket which is attached to the unit and grinds sometimes overrun it and the inside of the lid. But you obviously can't dunk the whole unit under running water b/c it still has electrical components within the base.
Overall, however, I'm pretty happy with the coffee maker. Takes up less space on the counter and makes just the right amount of coffee during the week.

Love it. One note of caution/recommendation....
This cofee-maker has served me well; but before buying it I read lots of comments regarding condensation from the lid splashing all over the counter when you flip the lid to dump the grinds. This happens when you don't vent the condensation from the inner compartment. To prevent that from happening-when your coffee is done brewing and you hear the beep letting you know it's done; lift the lid only about 2 inches and let go; this releases the lid on a hatch and will hold the lid slightly to allow the condensation to run down the underside of the lid and into the slope that leads back into the reservoir, preventing it from getting everywhere. Then, and don't ask me how this happens, the lid releases all on it's own. I've been trying to figure out how the lid knows when to close; I'll just assume it's done using a little bit of magic, so as to prevent any kind of blow to my ego...

Leaks water all over the counter
I have had this product for about a year. About 6 months ago it started leaking water out of the bottom of the coffee maker. My wife loves the way it looks. It makes excellent coffee. I especially like the adjustable temperature control on the burner. However, I would not recommend buying this machine because of the water leaking problem.

Not happy - will return this
This is the first review that I have written. This coffee maker has several faults. 1. the caraf lid is a terrible design 2. coffee leaks out on to the heat plate when removing the caraf partway through brewing (this is variable and I can't figure that out) 3. the controls are not user friendly. For the money I think this is not worth it. I will be returning and buying a lesser expensive unit.

Very Good Coffeemaker
I just recently purchased the model. I therefore can't attest to its longevity/reliability. It appears to be at the top of what I have had or is out there but I have not owned. All coffeemakers seem to have flaws but most can be overcomed. This makes excellent coffee and that is what matters. Who cares about the cup thingy in the water container- you fill the pot and it tells you the number of cups. The water holder seems no worst others but the fact that the pot pours without spilling makes the small opening a no issue. I don't use most features as I prefer making my coffee when I want a cup. I never set the auto brew as I don't trust most electrical appliances that might cause a fire. This is surely the best coffeemaker, for the money, on the market. Just don't worry about some of the minor complaints because other coffeemakers do not even come close to this one.

Cuisinart DCC-1200, fairly typical for Cuisinart
Our Cuisinart DCC-1200 lasted less that 2 years. Like many Cuisinart products, it's pretty badly underdesigned. The water load is very narrow and back right--tough for lefties and easy to spill over even for righties. The parts are expensive--especially that charcoal filter you have to replace every 2 months. Don't try brewing without it--even with the filter in place, ONE piece of coffee grounds in the heating plenum below the water tank and you might as well throw it all away. The assembly is done with rivets instead of screws so there is no way to get at the lower plenum to clean it properly--again, fairly typical Cuisinart planned obsolesence design. It's a French hunk of junk if you ask me. My $20 Mr Coffee brewed great coffee for almost 10 years before it died. I'll not buy Cuisinart again.

A few tips
This truly is a great coffee maker. I have one at work and two or three at home (in case one breaks).
The manufacturer says you can reuse the filters, and you can! Oh baby. A filter lasts me 2 days to a couple of weeks. Maybe longer. The upshot is that a pack of filters will last a very long time. Eventually, the filters will get torn, and you'll have to replace.
Here's another tip. Sand down the rim of the filter holder to make it flat. I used a fine grit sandpaper on a flat surface and sanded down the rim until I saw uniform scuff marks on the whole surface. Why do you want to do this? So that the filter is held tighter and doesn't fall out when you go to throw out the grinds -- it's a real drag to dig through the trash can to get the filter back.

This funky little gadget makes an incredible cup of joe! My husband and I were given the AeroPress as a gift and we were so happy with it that we gave our standard coffee maker away. It takes a little getting used to, but once you figure it out, there is no going back. The bonus of this product is that there is no electricity needed, so we travel with it and even take it camping! We love the AeroPress and have since bought it for several of our friends.

Love my new coffee pot
If you want hot coffee just for a couple of people this is the pot for you. My wife was just tired of having the big Mr Coffee sitting on our counter when she only really needed 10 cups of coffee a couple of times a year. She says "this percolator is beautiful and makes a nice addition to the kitchen". One thing to be careful of is the coffee gets really hot. I don't use any cream or milk so I pour mine before making breakfast. My wife uses milk so hers is just right as is.

Pray you won't need the warranty!
We have used Farberware Percolators since the 1960's. Our last purchase, an eight cup, lasted only one month. Still in warranty, I called to make a claim. I found the "customer service rep" so uncooperative and plain hateful that I decided to skip the warranty and go elsewhere. The "lady" that I talked to is meaner than water moccasin.

Makes great coffee.
I bought this coffee maker about 8 months ago and have used it almost every day since. It makes consistently excellent coffee, hotter and MUCH fresher tasting than any automatic drip I've ever had. It is no harder than an automatic drip maker to clean and you don't have to deal with soggy filters. In fact, usually I make coffee in the morning and wash the percolator at night and actually ENJOY cleaning the percolator because it's all stainless steel and easily gets cleaner than the plastic parts of an auto-drip. Part of it is because you can actually hand wash every surface the water and coffee will touch, unlike the plastic reservoirs you dump water into on an auto-drip. I actually get cravings for coffee at night while I'm cleaning it and look forward to the morning when I can brew another pot. When I periodically clean it with Dip It cleaner for percolators, it's like having a brand new percolator. To sum up: FRESH, delicious coffee!

Questions & Answers
Question : Coffee Makers that brew HOT coffee?
Is there a coffee maker out there that will brew HOT coffee? I've been through 6 or more units but the coffee is just not hot enough, especially the so-called "thermal" aluminum pots that are the worst of the worse. Sure, you can put boiling water in the carafe before brewing but that virtually negates having it ready in the morning.
Answer:
I have pasted a link below that will take you to a well written writeup on the TECHNIVORM coffee maker. You can do a GOOGLE search to find the best deal, but this site has one of the best discriptions I have seen for this unit.

Question : Does anyone have a suggestion for good coffee makers?
If not just tell me what you use and how often you drink coffee. I dont want anything really expensive. By expensive thats a 100 $ to me. I have a Mr. Coffee but the darn thing broke. So i need a new one. I drink coffee very often.
Answer:
I drink coffee every day, and I'm very picky about my coffee. My best recommendation is to go to the Salvation Army or some other resale shop and find yourself a good percolator from the 1940's or '50's.
Make sure that the cord isn't frayed or broken and that the pot itself is clean. It doesn't matter if the percolator is glass or metal -- just that it's in good working order and safe to use. The usual cost for one is anywhere from $5 to $10.
I have an old Farberwear Speedbrew, and it makes the best coffee I've ever had, no matter what type of coffee I use. It was a freebie from a friend who was clearing out his dad's estate, and I'll use it until it dies of old age or overwork.

Question : Is it okay to add milk into coffee makers?
I have a Braun Aromaster coffee maker and I want to make coffee with milk instead of water, but by the design of the maker, I don't think I can clean the compartment that drains the water into the grounded coffee. So I worry that if I add milk, it would leave residue and eventually go bad in the coffee maker. Any ideas?
Answer:
Don't do it!
Use the settings on the Braun to slow the drip as much as possible. Use a small amount of water in proportion to the coffee grounds. Put some milk in the pot before you start to brew. The hot, thick, strong water-based coffee will drip into the milk in the pot (which will be warming on the heater), and mix with the milk. Feel free to add sugar to the pot of milk too if you like. Just don't later use that milky pot to put water into your brewer without making sure it's perfectly clean. If it's like my Braun, you can kick up the heat of the heating unit in the base, which will help to warm up the milk while your coffee is brewing. I can't guarantee this will get it all hot enough, but I guess you can always nuke it if not.
I make an extra-strong coffee in the summer, pull it off the heat as soon as it's brewed and then pour it over ice cubes to make a nice ice coffee. If I want sugar in it, I add that before pouring over the ice, and if I want milk in it, I add the milk after the coffee has been mixed with the ice cubes. Yummy.
Oh, and if you like a sweet, cold, milky coffee, find "coffee syrup" on the web and order some. It's like chocolate syrup, only it's coffee (duh). Mix it with whole milk to make a great drink. The only place I've seen it in stores (or restaurants) is in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Question : Anyone know how to make coffee pods for the one cup makers?
I love my new one cup at a time coffee maker but the coffee pods are soooo expensive. I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas. Thanks
Answer:
What you can do is when the old coffee pods are used, don't throw them away, instead, open a tiny corner of the pod, empty out the old coffee, rinse it out, dry it out and refill them with fresh coffee, (from a can), then seal the open part with a paper clip, that should work fine but of course eventually they will have to be thrown away and a newer one refilled. If anything, this will save you SOME money.

Question : is there a company that sells coffee makers that grind your coffee then make it to ?
is there a company that sells coffee makers that grind your coffee then make it to ?
Answer:
Salton Melitta Mill & Brew Coffeemaker
We just got the Mill and Brew at Target for $60 and LOVE it!! For just a little more than the price of a regular coffee maker, we get a coffee grinder and maker built into one. For those of us who make a mess transferring coffee from the grinder to the filter, this gizmo is great!! I just put the coffee beans in the filter basket. Fill it with water. Choose the coarseness of the beans (there are seven levels), then press a button. That's it.
But that's not the only thing. It's also a very nice 10-cup coffee maker on it's own. Here's 10 reasons why:
First, the size. This coffee maker is a little larger than a regular 10-cup coffee maker but not as big as some grinder/brewer combos on the market. It's about 13.5 inches high, 10 inches wide and 11 inches deep. As such, it doesn't take up much counter space when compared to having both the grinder and coffee maker side by side.
Second, the see through window gauge. With my old coffee maker, it was impossible to accurately ensure I filled the water correctly because the gauge was on the inside of the reservoir. With the Mill and Brew, the gauge is on the outside and I can easily see the water level from the outside without having to peer in from the top.
Third, warming feature. After the coffee has been brewed, the heating plate turns itself on and off regularly and then shuts off automatically to prevent burning the coffee. Most coffee makers leave the heating plat on constantly so that the coffee starts burning after 15-20 minutes. Plus I'm always wondering whether I turned off the coffee maker before leaving the house. With the Mill and Brew, I don't have to worry about it (Note: Everyone should still turn off all appliances before leaving the house just in case).
Fourth, the programmable timer. I can set the timer to start the grinding and brewing process automatically at the exact time I prefer. So I don't have to remember to make the coffee for my wife who wakes up after I leave in the morning. It does it automatically (assuming we remember to fill it with beans and water the night before). Because of the timer feature, there's also a built in clock that my wife likes as she can set it on the correct time (the kitchen clock is set 10 minutes fast to help me avoid being late).
Fifth, no mess. I mentioned this before but the design is ingenious. The grinder is built into the filter so it's not like the ground coffee has to travel anywhere like in other models. Cleaning is as easy as taking the filter out and washing it. I was worried because some of the reviews I've seen mentioned the difficulty in washing, but I didn't have any problems. My wife, however, feels it's harder to clean because the inside of the maker doesn't come out for cleaning but the manual states that there's no need to clean the inside of the machine so I don't worry about it. The filter and parts surrounding the filter survived my dishwasher so that's another way of cleaning it.
Sixth, no more filters. The Mill and Brew comes with a stainless steel filter so there's no need to ever buy paper filters again. When we tried using a gold filter 9 years ago, we gave up because we got ground beans in our coffee. But the technology must have improved because I didn't get any beans that made it through the filter. The coffee tasted just fine. [UPDATE-8/1/03...After months of use and washing in the dishwasher, I noticed that the filter screen was torn at the sides. So far, it still works...but no more washing in the dishwasher for me. If the filter mesh screen tears any more, it'll mean buying a replacement part because the grinder is contained in the filter basket itself]
Seventh, the noise. OK..it's not the most quiet contraption. But on the other hand, it's about as noisy as my old grinder. And because the grinding is done inside the filter, there is some sound insulation. On the whole, it's not too bad.
Eighth, it works with either pre-ground coffee or whole beans. If someone gives me pre-ground coffee, I can still use it with the Mill and Brew.
Ninth, safety overrides. If the top of the coffee maker is not fixed properly, the grinder doesn't work. This prevents people from setting the timer and waking up to coffee all over the kitchen. Note, however that it will still work if you turn it on without water -- it can't tell that you don't have any water.
Tenth, the price. Most grinder combos go for $80-$100. Costco sells the Cuisinart for $69. But the Mill and Brew is available for $59.99 at Target and Amazon.com. Can't beat the price.

Question : Do French press coffee makers require different coffee grounds?
I'm thinking of getting my dad a french press, but am afraid he'll have to get all new coffee grounds since I read they require coarser grinds. Is that true? He has so many other coffee already ground up for his drip coffee maker. Thanks.
Answer:
Yes, finer grounds are BAD for a french press.
The ones he has ground up for a drip maker will pass through the filter and make one nasty, sludgy cup of coffee. Also, finer grounds make it harder to push down on the plunger and create sediment that way, too.
What type of French Press are you getting him? There is also a difference of grind in the type of filter of the press.
Generally, all presses should be ground to about the size of sea salts, but a metal filter needs to be ground a bit coarser than a nylon filter.
best of luck!

Question : What is the matter with coffee makers?

Question : Tassimo coffee in regular coffee makers?
I have seen these single serve coffees in the store and they look great. Is there a way that you can use the coffee in a regular machine?
Answer:
No, they're sealed in special little containers for that specific machine. However you can still get great coffee for a regular coffee machine.
The only reason those little capsules look so good is because of advertising. You can easily get better coffee from somewhere else, especially if you can find someone selling some nice locally roasted stuff.

Question : How to disable a coffee makers auto shut-off?
My husband and I drink coffee throughout the day and it is a pain having the coffee maker shut itself off. What can we do?
Answer:
The auto shut-off is a safety feature. If you bypass it, you run the risk of having your pot run dry causing a mess in your pot or, having the pot shatter. Worse still, the burner could overheat and cause a fire which would probably not be covered by your home insurance. Do yourself a favour and buy a thermal carafe. Your insurance company and taste-buds will thank you.
