Question : Which is better a percolator or a dripolator (drip coffee maker)
I am trying to decide on a new coffee maker, as far as taste goes, is a percolator or a dripolator (drip coffee maker) better
Answer:
Drip coffee maker needs to bring the coffee to a boil to purify it. Then gravity causes it to drip through the coffee to make the actual coffee product. It don't need to maintain that boiling temperature just bring the water there for a period of time and then hold it at some lower ( but hot) temperature.Perculator action requires the liquid to not only be brought to a boil but maintain that temperature in order to have the perculator action take place. Through this action ( rising to the top) is how the liquid pours down over the basket containing the coffee.Since it has to maintain this higher temperature, and we are talking about heatloss or more adequately the loss of energy or energy waste. This will be much higher for this coffee maker than it is for a Drip Coffee Maker.Oh, and I think the taste of your coffee is the result of the coffee blend rather than the method of processing to produce the beverage. I could be wrong here but that is just my take on it.
