Question : goldfish have died x4 new charcoal filter chlorine controle and algie controle found fish floating white gunge
cleaned tank and introduced blackmoors after 2days 2 of 3 dead removed last one and put in a jug to see if water is contaminated but if so what with
Answer:
I'd need more info to really be helpful but for 3 goldfish you would need a 40 gallon tank with good filtration. They are very messy fish. Was your tank cycled before you added fish If not you would have had a huge ammonia spike. Even if it was cycled you shouldn't add 3 goldfish all at once. It creates too much bioload for the bacteria to handle.**

Question : Our common goldfish has developed 2 or 3 small white spots. It doesn't seem like a typical ich outbreak.
Our common goldfish has developed 2 or 3 small white spots. It doesn't seem like a typical ich outbreak, which generally starts with a few white spots and then blossoms fairly rapidly. We did start treating the tank (20 gal.) with "Quick Cure" as soon as we started seeing the spots, about 4 days ago. We also removed the charcoal from the filter. Quick Cure generally works for us after 3 days or so, but we haven't seen any improvement. On the other hand, it hasn't gotten worse either The fish otherwise seems just fine, no flashing behaviors and is eating well.Could this just be zits
Answer:
Hi Michelle, you may not need to panic Have close look at your fish-are these spots just on any or all of the following 3 areas & NOT anywhere else: his gill covers, the semi-circular plate around his eye & along the leading edge of his front fins If they are only on these areas then they are simply breeding stars/tubercles showing that he's a male-typically they are displayed prominently this time of year. Another sign that everything is ok is you say he's not acting strange or flashing around on the gravel & decor. If there was an attack of Ich which is a parasite you would almost certainly see some evidence of his discomfort. Yet further proof is the fact that the spots are still visible-if this was Ich the chances are the medication would have removed them by now. Ich is almost always a complete covering of the fish looking like it has been sprinkled with salt grains. I would suggest leaving off the treatment if all the above looks to be breeding tubercles-many male Goldfish are needlessly treated for this in error. I would add that charcoal should only be used to remove toxins/medications from your tank & it does nothing when used generally-in fact it will hinder the colonisation of the good bugs, regular white polyester foam insets are by far the best way to go for regular filter media. Please feel free to email me if you have any queries
