Question : Why does my bird have a small hole in his head
I found him with a small hole in his head and some of the feathers gone around the area. Im thinking he could have scratched himself so much that he made a hole. but im not sure. Could it be stress or what I don't know why he has it. He seems fine, but he's reluctant to let anyone touch it.EDIT:It's not my birds ear. Its like on the top of his head. Not his nose either.
Answer:
So far, everyone has probably been accurate about the whole being his ear...he has one on the other side of the head too. But, if all the feathers are missing, he is probably scratching...he could have mites. Your local pet store will have a mite spray that you can apply to the bird to get rid of of the mites. Once the mites are gone, with a little time, his feathers should grow back.I would also suggest that you make sure that your bird is on a healthy diet...poor diet can cause all kinds of problems, including skin conditions that will cause excessive scratching and/or plucking. Your bird should have pellets, fruits and vegetables each day. Seed should be limited and make the pellets available all day, every day.
