Great Coffeemaker
This coffeemaker does everything I expect a coffeemaker to do....brews a good pot of coffee very quickly and keeps it hot until I have finished the whole pot. I have two of these, one at the office and one at home. I am very happy with them both.

Nice coffee maker
Well, what does one say about a coffee maker? It makes coffee. I agree with some other reviewers that the water fill port is located a little bit awkwardly, but this is not a huge deal. The graduation marks in the water reservoir are useless; you really can't see how much water is in there, so you need to measure out your water before pouring it in. It has some nice features. I like the programmable auto shutoff timer, and the 1-4 Cup setting really does somehow make better coffee when brewing a small amount. The black and brushed steel design matches nicely with our other kitchen appliances. Similar features and brewing quality can probably be found at a lower price point, but I guess we pay for design and build quality, too.

Worth the wait
Switched to this product from a Bunn. I gave up some speed but the coffee quality is fantastic. The coffee grind basked included works best if you just drop it in from a few inches above the slot. It keeps the coffee at perfect temperature without changing the taste even after a couple of hours.

**NOT** the same DSS-1200 as several years ago.
My 4 year old DCC 1200 sufferred from a broken carafe, and we were worried the hot plate was going too because the coffee wasn't very hot. We saw in a recent CR that the DCC1200 is the best, so we just bought a new one from Amazon. We got the dark chrome which is very nice and good for avoiding that dirty stainless steel look.
The interior design, where the water resevoir is, is different from our old one. I took it apart as a father-son project (how stuff works). They have improved the model over time, which is always a nice thing to see.
My advice to you is... we were happy enough to buy another one. We are happier with the performance of the new one.
Only complaint we've had is that it shuts off the burner before we're ready... sometimes we want another cup of coffee AFTER 2 hours. If you hear the beep, just flip the on switch again, and your old coffee will stay hot for another 2 hours.
If you see any complaints here about older DCC1200 (3 or more years old) they will not be accurate as far as what you can buy today due to changes.

Good product overall
Overall it's a good product for the money. My only preference would have been that the wide part of the reservoir would have been on the right instead of the left as most people are right handed.

Everything done WRONG!
Burned my thumb (bad design)!
Stopped working after the first brew... product is extremely cheaply made.
There is no Auto-Off switch (meaning, u can't just stop brewing.. must wait for the carafe to empty out)

very useful coffeemaker
I've had this coffeemaker for about 3 weeks. It brews a good cup of coffee in a minimum of time, is easy to use and to clean, and is perfect for one person in either a home or an office setting. The unit does make a fair amount of noise, so may not be suitable for some applications, but if you're looking for an inexpensive coffeemaker for one person, this may be it. Permanent filter and stainless steel mug with plastic interior.

Not great
It's not as good as the old one! I had an earlier version of this unit which was great. I used it almost every weekday for nine years, and it worked perfectly until the end. This new one is almost as unreliable as the old one that I had to replace when it became, well, unreliable. The unit is made for 12 ounces, but a) it doesn't pump out all of the water, and b) if you put enough coffee in for a 12 ounce cup the grounds spill out into the reservoir and splash up on the inside of the cover. Summary: the earlier version made a perfect 10 ounce cup of coffee EVERY time until it wore out. This model is iffy - when it works right it makes a good 10 ounce cup of coffee, but it's not good for a bigger cup, and even the 10 ounce cup is unreliable. Interestingly, the unit that I bought in 2001 cost about $20 as did this 2010 unit!

Very happy with my new coffee maker. Carafe keeps coffee warm for hours. Easy to use. Only issue is height, will not fit under my cabinets. Other than that, great purchase, very satisfied

Great Machine
I've previously written a review for a machine of a different brand and that model was a very good one, however, there were some issues that we realized it had after we used it for a while which I won't discuss here since it isn't relevant to this machine. First thing I want to say is that we love this machine. I'm not quite a coffee connoisseur but I do appreciate the taste of a nice flavorful cup of coffee and this machine does just that. I've learned a lot about what it takes to get that flavorful cup and this machine seems to have all it takes to do that. The coffee is hot and stays hot for quite a while after it brews. In my house coffee doesn't last too long in the pot to begin with... so hot is not really a problem. My problem was finding a machine to get us that great taste that you find in your favorite diner or restaurant. I like the idea of the stainless carafe as opposed to the hot plate and I can say that this carafe is quality built. Stainless steel inside and out and although the coffee is hot on the inside... the outside of the carafe remains cool to the touch which tells me that this is well insulated. I've had a cup of coffee one hour after we brewed and it was still plenty hot to drink. The machine is very easy to use and maintain. And as far as the #4 filters sticking up out of the basket... please, don't these people have anything else worth complaining about... in other words... it's not a problem. They really don't stick out... just tuck the slight bit under. The machine works fine and we never once had a problem with overflow of water or coffee coming out of the basket. If you set up the machine right, and it doesn't take a person with an engineering masters to do it, then you will be pleased with a great tasting result. My wife likes the simple design which is a bonus for me since the machine fitting in with the kitchen is important as well (to her anyway...:) ) Bottom line, try it out. We are glad we did.

Great product, needs some modifications for ease of use
We love this coffee maker, especially the thermal carafe, and ease of making coffee. I would purchase it again. My comments are that several features could be improved: First, the water temperature doesn't seem as hot as our previous coffee maker. One must warm the carafe with really hot water, after just having used it to pour cold water in the receptacle, before making a pot of coffee, or the coffee is not hot enough. Second, the flat, screw-top lid is difficult to turn to open and pour for your first cup - we have resorted to using flat rubberized jar openers to get at that first cup of brew. We may be weak, but I suspect making the lid so flat, with "helpful?" projections is the problem. Third, if you don't put the small extra lid on after making the coffee, it will cool off quite fast. But these are engineering / ergonomic points that don't interfere with the quality, once you get the hang of it.

great coffee
This coffee maker gives me the best cup of coffee I have ever been able to make at home and does it quickly. I have ground my beans and bought good coffee for years and finally enjoy the result. It is easy to clean and use. The carafe will keep the coffee reasonably hot/warm for up to three hours. If I want to make that longer I put boiling water in the carafe for several minutes before I turn the maker on. The only drawback (not for me) might be the height of the unit when the lid is up, 24 inches. Down it easily fits under the upper cabinets in the kitchen. I think you would have to spend a lot more money to get a coffee maker that would make a better cup of coffee.

Better than most.
This coffee maker is a replacement for one I bought new, that lasted just one week. That brand shall remain nameless. But, I read Consumers Report and they rated this one pretty high, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did because it's a good one, and I think CU is right on this one.
Some of the problems with it is the inability to find many of them on the local store shelves to sample before you buy. But I went on-line, and found a local dealer and went down to take a look. The unit first appear to be cheaply made because it is so light in weight, but it is not cheaply made by any standards. I think it is lighter because it is simpler, which means eaiser to maintain. It come apart easily for cleaning, unlike most of the others.
Many of the coffee makers I looked at had such a small area or opening to pour the water in. It is such a hassle to have to fight your coffee maker every night just to have it ready to go the next morning. I like the wide opening on this one.
Many complain about the small brew basket that does not hold a #4 cone just right. And I agree. What happens is the paper filter usually pushes the brew basket lift handle up just a bit, and when you swing the water nozzle back into place, it grabs the lift handle. I just push the paper down in the basket a little and learned to live with it. It is my only complaint on this model, and when you get some of these coffee makers home, and have to fight with all their problems every night, this little miss-design is really not so bad compared to others. But ultimately, the basket needs a redesign, and about a half an inch added to it.
My only other slight complaint is the carafe lid. You have to line up the dots on the lid just so when pouring your cup, or the coffee just kinda dribbles out.
Like I said, this one has it's little faults, that you learn to live with, but compared to the other I have had, and they were not cheap, this one is a winner.

Nice coffemaker
I love the little coffemaker!! The only thing I would change is the clock needs to have a brighter light. I cant hardly see it when I need to program it.

Great little coffee maker
Works great! Not having the problems others have experienced. The coffee is hot & the clock/timer hasn't lost time yet (been using over two months). I'll change this if something negative happens - but as of now I would definitely recommend (I also bought the filter basket to go with it to save on buying paper filters).

replaced my delonghi
Again wanted a programmable coffee maker! This replaced my thermal Delonghi style (no longer made). I always check the time, and reset it if needed. So far the only complaint I have, is pause and brew feature! so to make it work without feature I removed the plunger and the carafe cover. Honestly I preferred the 5 cup model the maker(sometimes it seems to run slow). I use a permanent filter and one paper filter it makes cleanup much easier. So far so happy and glad, to have my coffee ready when I wake! I don't understand the clock complaints from others? You can make the coffee an hour before waking, it will stay hot 2 hrs after it brews? I bought these 2 more as spares in case my 5 cup dies. I usually transfer my brewed coffee to a thermal mug anyway and shut the coffee maker off.
Rating :
Great 4 cup coffeemaker
This is the second one of these I've bought and it makes great coffee. I really like the auto shutoff feature.
Rating :
Disappointing quality
I have previously owned several Mr. Coffee products and had been satisfied with all of them; however, this coffee maker developed cracks on both sides at the junction between the black plastic and the transparent plastic within two months. Appears to be a design defect - very disappointing.

Customer Review :
BUNN ain't what it used to be.
I always had a Bunn coffee maker. My 5 yr old Bunn GR10 finally lost its ability to maintain a hot cup of coffee. The new NHBX 10 is the replacement. Bunn claims that the internal water temp is 200 degrees and is at the ideal level for perfect brewed coffee. I measured the water temp in the carafe and it was 180 degrees. The coffee is not hot enough. In hindsight, knowing what I know now, I would not buy this, as my coffee is not super hot and does not stay hot. If you want hot coffee, buy a commercial coffeemaker. Stay away from consumer grade coffee makers.
Rating :
Bunn is the best
What needs said? If you know Bunn coffeemakers you don't need me to tell you about them. If you don't and you want to spend a little more on a coffeemaker and if you want a quick perfect cup of coffee then get one. You won't be sorry. One word of advice though, get the Bunn filters as well. They actually do make a difference. The water pumps out pretty quick when it brews and most of the filters I have tried cannot pass the water fast enough to keep the grinds from washing out of the basket and into your coffee. Not a problem with the Bunn branded filters.

The only coffee brewer that should be in your home!
I roast my own coffee at home and this BUNN is the only coffee maker that has the honor of brewing my coffee. Sorry if I sound like a snob, but I drink my coffee black and the coffee just tastes better when brewed in a BUNN. All of my friends and family that come over absolutely love my coffee and actually drink it black when they normally load up with cream and sugar (calories and fat too!). So one could say if you are on a diet, then this is a must have!
No other coffee brewer heats the water as hot as this BUNN. Sure its more than that cheap $30 coffee maker at k mart, but there are also plenty of other coffee makers that are well over $100 and are no better than the $30 brewers - they just don't get hot enough. Also, like many so-called "12 cup brewers", the filter basket is not nearly big enough to fit 12 cups worth of coffee. If you are lucky, you can get 6-8 cups worth of coffee grounds. They should really be called: "Really expensive, extremely weak 12-cup coffee ruiner". At least that is not false advertising.
Technical Greatness:
- BUNN brewers also have a unique spray head that sprays water out in 5 streams to create the right amount of turbulence, rather than a slow drip like every other brewer.
- The water is heated in a stainless steel reservoir rather than toxic plastic tank.
- You pour the water from the front and don't have to open a hundred different secret compartments like all the other brewers and not have to worry about pouring water into the guts of the machine. The filter basket is also in the front and slides out with ease.
- No timer. Yes, that is a good thing! The water is always ready for you and this coffee is ready to go in under 3 minutes. Swivel open the top, pour the water in, put the decanter in place, close the lid and 200 degree F water immediately starts to saturate your grounds. Plus, do you really want your coffee sitting around on the burner, getting burned, while you are in bed smashing the snooze button. You can brew a whole pot of coffee in the time that it takes a pod-type brewer to make just one cup. And this is no exaggeration.
Do yourself a favor; spend the extra money NOW and buy this BUNN (or any other for that matter) and it will last for many years to come. We all know the cheap ones do not stay hot for very long and you end up throwing it out. So eventually, you will spend more than the cost of this BUNN.
Rating :
Bunn is simply the best.
After 5 years, our last Bunn was retired. We purchased this one to replace it and can't be happier. Some of the complaints I've seen on these reviews are ridiculous (high energy costs, coffee not warm, etc.). Don't know anyone who has ever had a problem with a Bunn. Best, quickest, tastiest coffee maker on the market. Enjoy!

What is the best way to clean an automatic drip coffee machine?
Answer:
Fill the carafe with 3/4 cup of vinegar and the rest water and run it through the machine. Then fill up the carafe with water and run it through again. That should clean any taste of vinegar left. It also takes off the hard water stains on the inside..

Question : Cleaning a drip style coffee machine?
What's the best way to clean the inside of one of these drip style coffee machines? This is a home use machine not commercial. There's a rid light on the control panel that is now blinking "clean".thanks
Answer:
you can buy coffee maker cleaner at the grocery store. Its usually in the coffee isle. I use 1 cup vinegar fill the rest of the pot with water run threw and then run a couple pots of fresh water. Vinegar also works great on the inside of microwaves.

Question : How do I clean a coffee drip machine with vinegar and water?
How do I clean a coffee drip machine with vinegar and water?
Answer:
Mix a pot about 3/4 water and 1/4 vinegar. If it's really bad, use more. Let it sit in the chamber for 1/2 hour or so, then put in a coffee filter and brew it through several times, changing filter each time. They say not to do it hot, but it works OK - and maybe better for cleaning. Now brew two pots of just water through it. Time how long it takes to complete brew cycle now on one of these rinses. When the time to brew goes up by about 20%, it's time to clean it again. It the pot gets burnt coffee inside it, put enough salt in to hit the burnt parts and add just enough water to get it wet.Let it sit for 15 minutes and give it (light swipe if you need to) and rinse it out. Works good on mugs too.

Question : how do you make your coffee? french press? drip? Espresso machine?
I use a melita filter with a craffe. I like that the coffee stays fresh but it doesn't stay hot! I want a french press but I do not like the grounds at the bottom. I don't like a drip coffee maker casue of the hot plate that burns the coffee. What is the best machine and or way to prepare coffee? your thoughts?
Answer:
Bialetti Italian-style coffee maker for expresso. Fill water receptacle with bottled water to the line (I live in Naples, Italy and it is not advisable for Americans to drink the tap.) Use Kimbo coffee, pack it into area reserved for the coffee. Screw the machine together, place it on the stove and wait for the water to force its way to the top half of the coffee maker. You'll know it's done when you see condensation at the spout of the coffee maker.

Question : How do I make coffee in an American machine?
Hi, this will seem very silly to many of you, but I'm an Aussie girl staying in a US hotel and I have NO IDEA how you work a drip coffee machine. Would somebody have the time to help me? It seems to be the standard one I've seen in your movies - heat at the base, pyrex clear container above that, then a plastic container. I have figured out that water goes down when I put it together, but do I need to heat the water beforehand? Where is the coffe packet supposed to go? I'm lost. We use plungers or espresso machines at home.
Answer:
You're fine. You poured the water correctly. Coffee packet goes into the filter slot. It should open. Then make sure it's plugged in and press the button to brew. Once you do a red/orange light turns on and turns off when done. Call front desk if you still need help. The water automatically heats and drips.

Question : How much coffee ground for an espresso machine do I use in a drip machine?
I bought some coffee that was pre-ground to a fine texture for espresso machines. How much should I use for my drip machine? Half of what I would use with a coarser grind?
Answer:
I would say temper it to your taste, but definitely use less. because the coffee is ground finer there is more surface area exposed to the water so more flavor is extracted from the coffee. depending on the coffee and your personal taste this can be a good or bad thing. it most likely will make your coffee taste bitter since the grinds are in contact with water for a longer time than if you were brewing it with an espresso maker. I would either get a stove top espresso maker (relatively cheap) or junk that coffee and get something ground for your type of machine. Ideally, you will get your best cup of coffee if you buy whole beans and get a grinder and grind just what you need right before you brew it.

Question : Anyonone know how to brew REALLY GOOD coffee from an auto drip machine?
I LOVE the coffee from Tim Horton and have even purchased their coffee for home brewing...It does not taste the same at all.Any tips on brewing good coffee?
Answer:
Sure. Here's some good tips and you can use them basically on most types of coffee machines except deviation on other preparations on special machines. 1.- Clean water means distilled or filtered water and not just out of the tap water.2. Water temperature of the coffee should be 95-98C (a digital thermometer would aid in knowing for sure) Not hot enough water is caused by mineral deposits not allowing the pot to get up to that temperature. Cleaning the pot regularly would help.3,-The coffee pot should brew for 3-4 minutes and not less than the 3 minutes. The pot is not doing it's job properly or the pot is not going to help if all else is ok.4.- A gauge of measurement calls for 1 tbsp. for 6 oz. water The grind should be for in your case designed for auto- grind. I hope this helps in making really good coffee! As close as these tips are followed your coffee should be improved.

Question : I see oily film that comes out of my coffee maker. Machine is clean. Is drinking this coffee unhealthy?
Some days the "oil" at the surface of the cup is more obvious. Today I could see the oil streaming through the coffee as I poured it from the pot into my cup. I've read about diterpenes and such, but I don't know if the visible oily film is this and most importantly whether it is unhealthy to consume coffee like this? The coffee is a preground store bought type (like Starbucks) and made through a standard drip coffee machine with filter.
Answer:
Coffee is basically extraction of the oils of the coffee bean so I believe it's probably natural. You could always soak the pot and all in vinegar.
