Totally satisfied with this coffee grinder
I agonized for a long time before spending over $400 on a grinder. I started off thinking that I would spend no more than a quarter of that amount but after reading numerous reviews, I came to the conclusion that the cheap grinders just don't work very well. The Vario is so new that I didn't find any meaningful reviews but I took a chance based on its specifications. I'm very satisfied with it. It looks good, it grinds extremely fast (at least compared to anything I have used before, 20 sec. for enough coffee for a 32 oz French press), there are lots of different grind settings (macro and micro giving lots of combinations), and there are no static problems to throw grounds over the kitchen worktop. The grind appears to be uniform as far as I can tell.
I use it for grinding coffee for a French press. I find setting it a little finer than filter gives the right results for my tastes -- I don't know whether that means its pre-settings are too coarse or whether I just prefer a rich, dirty cup of coffee (I think probably the latter as I'm a Greek/Turkish coffee fan as well as a fan of French press). I have tried it for Greek/Turkish coffee on its finest setting but it did not get it fine enough for that purpose -- that does not matter to me as I already have an Athena brass hand-mill. I use the Vario twice a day to make coffee for my French press and it works just great albeit I set it finer than the manufacturer's setting for French press.

Phenominal Grind Consistancy
The grind consistancy is perfect. The machine is well built, and it seems like it's very durable. The only concern that I would have is that I think at it's most coarse grind, the grinds may still be too fine for French Press. I don't think there is a way to calibrate it either, so if you're looking to do French Press coffee with this machine, you may not have good luck with it.

Having freshly ground coffee at hand makes all the difference when brewing the perfect cup of coffee! Bodum`s New & Improved ANTIGUA electric coffee grinder was updated in several aspects in 2007, including a wider range of grinding from coarse to fine and a convenient instant grind feature. The conical burr grinder with its vast advantages was kept the same. The burr grinder allows you to match the coarseness of the grind to your preferred brewing method. There are eight preset grind settings marked on the Antigua, plus you can choose any intermediate position. The ANTIGUA can be used to grind all kinds of roasts, from the oily espressos to lighter and dryer roasts. The timer quantity/control allows for an amount of up to 2.8oz/80gr of coarse ground coffee and up to 1.4oz/40gr of fine ground coffee. The effects of static electricity inherent in all home grinders and we have done our best to reduce the amount of coffee mess in the update. Our new instant-touch button allows you to preset the grinding time for your preferred amount of coffee. You will need to experiment a few times, but once you know how much time the machine needs to run for the amount of coffee you desire, just leave the time in place and each time you wan to grind all that you need to do is touch th red button and the coffee will grind the exact amount you desire. The Bodum design department has scaled this professional grinder down to the smallest possible size without sacrificing the strength of the motor and grinding mechanism. 1-year limited warranty.

Best Durn Coffee Grinder Ever!
I was fortunate to receive the "Bodum Antiqua Electric Burr Grinder" (long name, I just call it my coffee grinder) for my birthday eight years ago and "Voila" it gave up the ghost yesterday. It was my fault, not the grinders, because I didn't check the grounds tray to see that my wife had just ground some beans and the cup was already full (watch out for this). I really overloaded this wonderful "antique" machine, which ended up stripping the drive gear. This machine is only surpassed by the hand driven one that my Polish Grandmother allowed us to use when we were children on her farm in 19.... something, after the American Civil War anyway, which was our introduction to freshly ground coffee. Unfortunately, Bodum's guarantee doesn't extend eight years. Would I buy another one...you bet! Am I going to buy another one...YOU BET!

a really good value
I have had my Bodum grinder since 2003 so I gave it a really good trial before writing this review. I shopped a lot of much more expensive burr grinders and this one pretty much does everything they do for a lot less money. It has settings for french press, drip, etc., and many in-between options. You can turn the arrow to whatever grind you like and if it's not quite right it's easy to tweak the setting a little or a lot. It always grinds the coffee perfectly and consistently with a minimum of dust and it's fairly easy to clean because the whole thing comes apart. I know it makes quite a bit of noise but that hasn't really been an issue. After almost 10 years of using this grinder it finally died in a house fire but I am now buying the exact same one again because it was such a good dependable grinder.

Broken within months, Bodum will not honor warranty
I purchased this grinder a few months ago. Recently, the bin that catches the ground coffee came loose and slides out when grinding. The result is coffee grinds everywhere. I contacted Bodum and they said their warranty does not cover the bin. I would have to purchase one with no guarantee that it would fix the problem.
First, the product is unreliable. Second, the company will not stand behind it's product. Apply the money you would spend on this towards a quality item like th Kitchen Aid burr grinder.

very unhappy
The Bodum Antigua Electric Burr Grinder I have does not grind coffee fine enough for espresso. I have experience with other grinders of this same make that do. This indicates to me that the manufacture of this particular machine is shoddy and that Bodum's quality control is poor. I communicated with a person named Geudy at the company and was told that because I can not produce a sales receipt (it was a gift)they will not guarantee, or stand by the quality of their products. It is really disappointing that a company of this size is willing to sell shoddy products, that their quality control program is inadequate, and that they don't especially care. Purchasing a Bodum coffee grinder appears to be like the lottery. If you're lucky you might win, but if you lose, tough luck; they already have your money.

I have had this coffee grinder for about 8 years. I can say it has stood the test of time and still going strong. I didn't know they still engineered household appliances this durable anymore. It has lasted me through Dental School and my first 3 years of marriage. The container in the top will hold an entire 8 oz bag of beans and because most oxidation of coffee occurs after the beans are ground, you can have a Cafe quality cup of coffee every morining. Brew immediately after grinding. You will love it. So much better than those messy, awkward top loading grinders. You set the timer, grind, and pour into your filter. That easy. Occasional cleaning of the grinding rollers with a toothbrush will keep it running smooth.

With a powerful design and compact shape, the conical Saeco Titan Burr Grinder guarantees consistent grounds with cnc milled high precision burrs. The result is an even grind for quality espresso and drip brew. The 60-second timer and 12 grind settings, measured from coarse to fine, allow a variety of grinds to fit each personal brew style. The Titan Burr Grinder is equipped to grind for use with drip, French press, espresso, or even Turkish coffee. Conical burr grinding preserves the most aroma with less heat to protect the essential oils and flavors of the coffee. User-friendly features of the Titan Burr Grinder include an anti-static device, automatic shut-off, removable ground coffee container and bean hopper for easy cleaning, and cord storage. Coffee grinders are essential for fresh brewed coffee at home because pre-ground coffee interacts with the air around it, losing flavor and aroma in mere hours. Saeco knows that the best coffee experience comes from grinding whole beans, and the new Titan Burr Grinder allows users to grind before brewing for the best home experience.
Customer Review :
Worked well while it lasted
I've had one of these for maybe three years, and happily used it to grind coffee for my drip coffee maker. It worked much better than any previous grinder I'd owned. Sadly, this morning it started making a nasty clicking sound and stopped turning the burrs; what it sounds like is a broken plastic gear inside. I don't see obvious way to fix it, and have decided to replace it.

Another piece of plastic crap by Saeco. This is the second product of theirs I've owned that just mysteriously stopped working. Over priced, poorly constructed.

Lello Ariete Burr Coffee Grinder
Customer Review :
3.5 years of service
I purchased this in July of 2006. It has worked well for three and a half years. In that time we've made about 1400 to 1500, 10 cup pots of coffee. It is very loud and has a high frequency component to the sound that can be very penetrating. Plan to leave the room. I have tools in my wood shop that are more quiet. Grind is pretty consistent. It has a wide range of grinds but doesn't get as fine as I would like for espresso. I've used it almost exclusively for drip grind which is does quite well. As with many plastic-bodied units, it can develop a static charge while grinding which can result in quite a mess when you pour the ground coffee out.
Just recently we had a problem with the cutters shifting and I'm afraid the unit is at the end of it's life. I made a temporary fix but I'm looking for a replacement. My investment ended up being about 3 cents per 10 cup pot which I think is very fair. Because of that, I would rate it a good investment for the price.
Coffee technology is addictive. My previous grinder was a blade unit that sold for about half the price of this one. My next grinder will be quieter and be more facile at finer grinds, but I expect to pay at least twice as much as this one for the new unit. This really is a nice grinder for people early in their coffee addiction. It did what we asked it to do and held up for a reasonable period of time.

Great grinder
We've been using this grinder for a year now. Daily, sometimes 2-3 times daily. It continues to perform well. Yes, it's loud - it's a grinder. Setting the grind coarseness is easy. Clean up is easy. We are very pleased with this product.

Awesome Lello Ariete Burr Coffee Grinder
This product is awesome. From the variable grinding options that run a full spectrum (very coarse to fine) to the selection of exactly how many cups one wishes to make. I've never had a fresher cup of coffee (FYI I use a french press;I grind exactly 2 cups and it's perfect every time. Love this product.

Stand By!
I am currently in the market for a new grinder. I purchased this one, after much research. I thought I was getting a good product, but I am not at all happy with it. I've had it for about 4 years, but it hasn't worked right for most of that time. You have to stand with it, holding the dispense cup tightly to the machine, so that it operates. The bottom of the dispense cup came apart a while ago, so I had to tape it back together. I would never recommend this piece to anyone. I paid $90 for it, through Amazon, and now look how cheaply they're selling it! I shouldn't have had to stand next to the machine, holding the catch compartment tightly to the machine. Ridiculous!

I regret buying this $50 coffee grinder
This $50.00 coffee grinder clogs up where the grounds come out. The plastic ground coffee receptacle is difficult to use because the top is not connected, so the top falls into the container, it falls off, etc. It is too high maintenance for my taste. I never used a burr grinder before and will never use one again. I bought this for our office use and want to return it for one that just grinds the coffee.

Questions & Answers
Question : what is the best brand of coffee grinder. also electric vs. hand grinder? why?
also where is a site showing how to sharpen knives pref. with added video. can a bread knife be sharpened. (put in 2 questions because down on pts. they say) thanks.
Answer:
I have a Cuisinart electric grinder (the only way to go is electric). I've had mine for over 10 years and no problem. I also have another that I use just for grinding spices...Regarding your serrated knife-if it did not cost alot of money and is not high quality, better to just toss it and buy a new one. If it is high quality, you will want a pro to sharpen it--but it's not gonna be cheap--they are labor intensive to sharpen.

Tear up a piece of bread and run it in the grinder. It's like a sponge and will clean things up nicely. I use it all the time.

Question : Can you grind other things besides meat in a meat grinder?
we are looking for a heavy duty grinder for food. we need a grinder to grind up roots into powder, and we don't think that a coffee grinder will do the job.can we put things besides meat in a meat grinder?if not, what would you suggest grinding roots in?we are looking for an electric grinder.thank you.
Answer:
You can grind anything in there. Just make sure to wash it thoroughly after each use. I actually put raw cranberries in mine to make cranberry salad. So yeah, pretty much anything will grind up in there. But it will not grind it powder-fine. You will likely need to process it again in a food processor or coffee grinder to get it into a powder.

Question : Looking for info. on a Coffee Mill / Grinder
I found an old vintage electric coffee mill made by Cincinnati Time Recorder Co. It weighs about 65 lbs. and is in good shape. Plugged it in and the motor runs smoothly too.I could not see letting it get tossed in a landfill. But I can not find any info on this particular grinder. The company mostly made time clocks dating back to 1896. And I think they made kitchen items up till the mid 1940's.Would like to determine if it is worthless or an item that someone would collect? It is a model #225 if that helps anyone.
Answer:
put it on e-bay if you don't find someone here how wants it maybe someone will want it

Question : How long should I grind coffee for?
Good Morning! I finally decided to try whole bean coffee instead of ground coffee! Two quick questions:1. Does whole bean coffee really have more flavor than ground coffee?and2. For how long should I grind the coffee for? I have one of those small personal sized electric grinders. The directions with the grinder said 20 seconds, but I just wanted to verify on that with other coffee drinkers! Thanks!Randy
Answer:
Whole beans from those clear dispensers @ the grocery store are not much better than pre-ground coffee. Beans in valve-sealed bags are as fresh as you can get without buying right from the roaster or roasting your own.Blade grinders aren't great for coffee as they pulverized (not grind) the beans, but you can use them for most drip brewers pretty well. 20 seconds is a good starting point, you'll be able to judge your preference after a few tries.Don't go 20 seconds straight. Blades create heat which damages the bean's flavor. Go in 3-5 second bursts, that will also let you look between bursts to see how the grind looks.
