So far, so good.

I've tried many different ways to brew good coffee, but always return to stainless steel and Farberware. Plastic and aluminum give even the best brews that yucky aftertaste. This one not only brews a great cup of coffee, it keeps the remainder at just the right temperature so that it doesn't become bitter in a few hours. Keeping the pot full and ready for company works perfectly for me. Now I need to see how well the pot holds up to daily use. So far, so good.

HOT COFFEE at last

a perfect transaction. We finally have HOT coffee... enough of those drip things that give you lukewarm at best. This gem is the best. gives us 2 nice cups each!

Lousy Percolator??? Probably.

Just wanted to get this into the 5 star category to make a point. The 5 star reviews by and large appear to be made by people who own old - not new - Farberware percolators. I too recall (and have owned) good percolators, including Farberware, when these appliances were made in the USA. If you look at the poorer ratings, they are consistently made by people who have recently bought a made in China Farberware (or any/all other brand) percolator. That's also been my experience. Too bad, since in my opinion, electric percs make the very best cup (or two:) of coffee.

GREAT LITTLE 2-4 CUP COFFEE PERCOLATOR

THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT-I'VE USED FARBERWARE FOR OVER 35 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEM--MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE CORD IS TOO SHORT SO I HAD TO
BUY AN EXTENSION CORD.

not the same farberware that I trusted

I sent a letter to the Farberware people which came back as they closed their site!
Dear Farberware People,

I bought a percolator "farberware Millenium" from Macy's in October 2006. It sure was not like the previous one I had. My previous one had a glass section in it. That's why I had to get a new one. It broke. Anyway, this one I have now is terrible. It was made in China. There is no glass partition in it. And now to add insult to injury, it does not percolate. All the thing seems to do is to warm up the water. Then, I have to open the pot, drain the water and pour it over the basket. I mean the last one was bought in 1972 from Lazarus (which became Macy's now). Obviously, I'll have to get another one. But, I am not paying $79.99 again for something that's not going to last even 4 years. What gives? What happened to your quality control?

Also, I bought a Farberware Chicken Fryer from Penneys. It was terrible. It would spark each time it was plugged in. Within 3 months, the chicken would get stuck in the fryer. I had to return it to the store. They argued with me and didn't want to take it back because it had been used. I can tell you; but, I did get store credit.

What I want to know is this! I know it is cheaper to have it made in some other country. But, don't they have quality control for electrical appliances that is in line with the U.S. requirements?

I really don't know what I am going to do about coffee. I think you people are the only ones who make percolators. I'll have to re-think coffee. I just wanted to let you people know what's happening with the average person using your appliances.

Thank you,

great item

I haven't actually used this coffeemaker, but I bought it to replace one that is over 30 years old. It hasn't changed much, so I know that it will last a long time.

Don't throw out a perfectly good urn just because you need a part!

These West Bend urns are great. I'm writing because I have read in several reviews that some people replaced their perfectly-good urns because the cord wore out or the inner tube got lost.

There are places online where one can purchase replacement parts (possibly also from West Bend themselves). For a few dollars, you can get a new tube, cord, lid, etc.

In addition, many hardware stores sell cords in various lengths that work in these urns. Speaking of cords: I would never use an extension cord with an appliance that generates heat. And, if you're going to use a timer, make sure that it's a heavy-duty one that can handle the wattage.

Excellent pot and a great value!

We were in a bind - our wedding was in a week and it seemed impossible to rent coffee urns for less than we could buy them. After reading encouraging reviews here, I bought two of these urns. First, they make a fantastic cup of coffee, work very simply, are easy to clean, are really inexpensive, and are MADE IN THE USA!!! What's not to like. Seriously, use a coarse ground coffee (I used Community Coffee Medium Roast) and good clean water and you will have great results. The only tiny complaint I have is that it could come with a longer power cord. The one supplied with the unit is like 18", so plan on having an extension cord nearby if you are using this at an event.

Coffee Maker

The West Bend coffee maker is excellant. Makes 42 cups in about 30 min. A lot better then the GE makers we have. They take about 1 1/2 hours to complete.

Rating :

Does the job.

We purchased the West Bend 58002 to make coffee for a program of adults that averages 15-25 people per day. This coffee maker provides good tasting coffee for the individuals and brews in a timely manner. Cleaning the coffee maker at the end of the day is easy. The cost was ok. We really didn't like the plastic filter cup but were unaware that is was not a metal filter when we bought it. We also would have preferred a coffee maker with an on/off switch, rather than just plugging and unplugging it for power. Overall, it does a good job for our needs and we would recommend it to others.

Hot Coffee With Grounds

This coffee pot works well and seems to be well constructed. The only problem I have with this coffee pot is that the coffee grounds always spill out over the top of the basket. We have to run the coffee through a hand held strainer, especially the last cup.

Just a great product!

We always sore by Farberware electric perculators, until we went through three of them in one year.

Decided to try the Presto stainless steal perculator and when we unpacked it we just new it was a

better product. The material of the pot was far more superior. "We love this product".

makes good coffee

This coffee maker makes good coffee. It's well made and stylish in a retrograde sort of way. It takes 24 ounces of water to fill it to the "six cup" mark inside, so I'd call it a 3 cup maker, or maybe a 4 cup maker, but not 6 cups. That's ok though, since I'm usually making coffee for myself. But even using percolator style paper filters, sediment still ends up in the coffee. And its a bit harder to clean than a drip style maker. I can handle harder to clean, but not the sediment. So I bought another drip maker.

Perfect Coffee Pot

This is just what we were looking for as we love to perc coffee and our old one gave out after many years of use. This one arrived on time and in great shape. Thanks.

Great Coffee Pot!

I originally purchased the 12 cup version of this percolator and liked it so well that I bought the 6 cup to take to work. It makes a wonderful cup of coffee - hot, smooth, and the perfect strength. Yes, there can be sediment - sometimes there is and sometimes there isn't - but it's not a deal breaker to me. I've learned that if I let it sit for a few minutes when it's finished perking before I pour my first cup that if there is sediment, it will sink to the bottom. Then, if I don't completely drain every drop from the pot, there isn't any in my cup.

Because I already had flat bottom 4-cup paper filters for my drip maker, I used these instead of purchasing the more expensive percolator filters. Simply poke a hole in it for the stem and the damp paper will wrap around the stem and seal the hole. This has worked wonders for grounds and sediment.

There is nothing like the happy sound of coffee perking and that delicious aroma every morning.

I highly recommend this coffee pot and would purchase it again. Actually, I guess I already have. ;o)

Perfect size coffee urn

I ordered two of these West Bend coffee urns for our church. We had previously owned the same type but in a larger size that made 100 cups of coffee. After many years of service, it was still working but we decided to order new ones. These urns are so dependable that they will last a long, long time. We chose "two" 55-cup urns this time for the ability to have two coffee stations going instead of a single line. Plus, the smaller urns are easier to handle and to clean. We love having the two coffee stations. The West Bend coffee urn is the workhorse of coffee urns.

Questions & Answers
Question : How can you use an old-fashioned coffee percolator to brew iced tea?
I collect all sorts of antique appliances. I would like to use an old Art Deco style percolator to make tea. (I don't drink coffee!) I have a modern West Bend Iced Tea Maker and use it frequently. However, I'd love to make use of this old percolator.

Answer:
The Twinings Tea Blog has weighed in on iced tea several times recently, including an overview and an article examining some of the many options available to fans of this drink. While those options also include a wide variety of bottled tea, there's no substitute - and nothing so economical - as making your own iced tea. There are several ways to accomplish this goal. Here are a few of them. One of the most popular and time-honored methods for making iced tea is simply to make hot tea and chill it. While this is nearly as simple as it sounds, there are a few variables that can affect the end result. Check out some pointers from Twinings, as well as an illustrated tutorial and this primer on making loose-leaf iced tea. For what's arguably an even simpler take on iced tea, consider the cold-brewing method. As the name suggests, it uses no heat. Here's a method that uses ice cubes to make shincha, a type of Japanese green tea. For more information, check out these articles from the Me and My Tea and Miro Tea blogs. iced tea, iced tea makerIf you've always wished for a mechanical assistant that could do much of the work of iced tea making, you're in luck. There are a number of iced tea makers that succeed in various degrees in automating this process. For a quick look at a few of these models, refer to this overview. Question : How long should a coffee percolator be left boiling?
I just got a percolator, the kind of coffee maker where you put it on the stove like a kettle and the water goes up through the metal basket when it boils. I know you have to boil it for a few minutes but I forget exactly. I only drink one cup of coffee in the morning but it has to be strong enough to win in a fistfight.

Answer:
Proper perculating is eight minutes after the boil, lower your temperature and let perc. Also if you want stronger or weaker coffee you adjust the the timing of the perc after the boil.

Question : How do you use a coffee percolator?
I have a coffee percolator. I know how much coffee and water to add and I know that you cook it over a low flame, but I don't know how long to let it cook once it starts boiling and you can see it through the little glass cap.

Answer:
5 Min's for reg and if you like it stronger just add more coffee it you perk it longer it gets bitter

Question : what are the advantages of using a coffee percolator?
I currently use a Krups electronic drip coffee maker but I'm not satisfied with this particular one. Is a percolator better?

Answer:
Percolators make the worst coffee in the world I don't know anyone the makes coffee that way anymore, Vacuum makes the best, Drip and french press are the next best in there

Question : How was coffee made before the coffee percolator?
How did people make coffee before the coffee percolator was invented by Benjamin Thompson'?

Answer:
They ground the beans & just put them in a pot and boiled the grounds. The first cups were ok, however the last few cups always were full of grounds. Some people used small sieves or strainers to place over the cups & pour the coffee through. Others poured it through cheese cloth. Tea also used to be put in pots loose & strained through seives or strainers before tea bags. There was also a seive-like 2 piece metal ball that people put tea leaves & even coffee into to avoid leaves & grounds in their cups....hope this helps Birdlove

Question : Can an electric percolator be adjusted (to make the coffee stronger)?
I have a Farberware electric coffee percolator. It works fine except the coffee is very weak. I don't think it is perking long enough. Can the timer inside be adjusted?

Answer:
U could add more coffee to make it stronger if there is no adjustment to it.

Question : Coffee percolator makes hot water but no coffee?
I have a Melitta bullet shaped percolator. Recently, it's been acting wacky. It makes the sound and appears to make coffee. Then when it's poured, it's either tea-like or water-clear. The grounds are mostly dry. It acted up twice last week and again today. There are days in between that it works fine. I've checked the basket and it's clean and clear. Not sure where to look next.

Answer:
Clean it by running clear water through it, do this periodically..

Question : Which is better Electric tea maker or coffee percolator?
Which is better Electric tea maker or coffee percolator? also can it work as tea maker?

Answer:
The electric tea maker is best especially if it has a temperature setting. If you are drinking green and white teas you never want to use boiling water as it will affect the taste and aroma of the tea. Only pu'erh and red (black) teas should use water at the boiling point. Green teas and oolongs should be around 170-190f and white tea water temps should never exceed 150f.As for using a percolator for tea this is never advisable as the water recycles over and over again making the tea bitter and acidic. A drip coffee maker would be a better alternative to a percolator.Best to use an electric tea kettle for the water and pour it over the loose tea to let it steep.

Question : Is there such a thing as good percolator coffee?
I believe it is possible. How do I make good percolator coffee? What is the secret to good perked coffee?

Answer:
Your water should only go through the grounds once - but percolators will make coffee that is more bitter and oily because the water keeps going through. The Bialetti stove top espresso makers work great because the water only goes through once. Here is my favorite one and the coffee grounds I use: http://www.all-things-italian.com/proddetail.php?prod=68000 & http://www.all-things-italian.com/proddetail.php?prod=8351

Question : i would like to know a bit about the history of a coffee percolator i have. does anyone have any clues?
i have a coffee percolator that was made in italy and i would like to know some more about it. on the bottom, it says crusinallo, and on the side, it says morenita. i would like to know about the company, and/or the age. it does say 1890 inside, but i don't know whether that is the age or not. does anyone know anything?

Answer:
This may be of help:Bialetti Household Coffee Machines & Equipment From the beginning of 1950's till today, Alfonso Bialetti S.p.A. of Crusinallo has manufactured over 200 million coffee makers. The inspiration behind Alfonso Bialetti's first creation was an early washing machine comprising of a boiler and tub for the collection of hot water. It was on the basis of this principle that Alfonso developed the Moka with its unmistakable octagonal shape, as described by Renato Bialetti who took over the business from his father, best remembered in the words of Renato himself as the "little fellow with the moustache".The Bialetti range today is divided between the production of traditional coffee makers (the Moka and new steel models characterized by the same reliable construction and excellent coffee production) and electric coffee machines. In this way Alfonso Bialetti confirms its leadership and ability to respond to market demands with expert solutions based on advanced technology and innovative design, which combined, translate into excellent product performance.
