The Lavazza super crema, whole bean, 2.2 pound bag are a premium blend of 80% sweet arabicas and 20% robustas producing a rich, intense flavor with a thick espresso crema that holds up well in cappuccinos and lattes. Super crema can also be used with all other brewing methods for an extremely rich, flavorful coffee.

Love this coffee
I love this coffee! It is great in my Jura Capresso burr grinder drip machine. Makes a great cup of coffee!

Eehhh!
This coffee wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. Just didn't have the flavor or aroma I was expecting. I use a french press, my preferred method of brewing and that usually brings out the best a coffee has to offer.

Good Coffee, No Vacum
I'm a long time consumer of lavazza, however this was the first time i purchased whole beans. I got the whole beans in aim of getting a fresher coffee, this one was described as vacuumed packed and just for $19.09. Unfortunately it was not vacuum packed like I have expected.

I like it very much.
I purchased this blend for few times already and every time I liked it !
Rating :
sour finish
these beans produced the thickest crema i've seen on my superauto but the coffee has a sour / acidic finish which i do not like. i wish someone would had mention it.

Great Smooth Sumatran
This was an excellent coffee. I have had Starbucks Sumatran coffee, but I think the Cafe Altura is much smoother. Great choice.

Excellent Coffee, but make sure you can store it!!
Before I begin let me just explain where I am coming from. Though I am by no means a coffee expert I have become a little more sophisticated just in the regard that I own a french press as well as a chemex cofffee maker and grind my own beans as well. Though I like some of the standard coffees out there (especially Peets), I am trying to broaden my horizons and try new coffees. I decided to give this brand a try just because I saw it was a top coffee seller on amazon and had received mostly postive reviews.
When I received the bag I opened it up and it smelled wonderful. as many coffee drinkers know, opening and smelling a new bag of coffee beans is almost as good as drinking the coffee itself. As for the coffee though, it was superb. I think the best way I can describe it is to say not too strong, but not too weak so it's perfect for someone looking for the best of both worlds. also, it is not as acidic as other coffees (which I understand is a common chracteristic of Sumatran coffee in general) so that was a positive for someone like me who loves coffee, but is always popping antacids.
There are a few things to keep in mind though. This is a huge bag! It's like 3 standard supermarket bags in one. so if you drink a ton of coffee a day or have a big family of coffee drinkers, that might not be a problem. However, for someone like me who is single and drinks one or two cups a day, it prevents a bit of a challenge. The instructions tell you to put the bag in a ziplock bag and refrigerate to for prolonged storage, which is what I did. Two weeks later the coffee still tastes good, but not as fresh as when I first bought it and there is still over half the bag left! If anyone out there has any suggestions on how I should store this coffee other than refrigeration, please shoot me an email.
But other then that the coffee is great. Just make sure you realize you are going to get a lot of it unless there is a smaller bag for sale on amazon, which I do not think there is.

A great big bag of good coffee...ahhh
Got the new coffee maker and grinder and have been experimenting with different types of coffees. I've tried some of the expensive types but I have to say this really is a great coffee. The beans are fresh and the coffee is a nice dark roast without that "acid shudder" finish. And you really get alot for the money. Definitely a coffee I'd recommend and will purchase again.

Not Good
I bought this based on other reviews. Wow, I'm disappointed. Maybe, (let's give them the benefit of the doubt), I got a bad batch. I knew something was up when I opened the bag and smelled how skunky it was. Thought, hmm, that doesn't smell much like coffee. Not fresh roasted anyhow. Brewing in my Bialetti was a big disappointment. Tasted like it smelled, old socks. Weird aftertastes. I drink my coffee black so it is of course less forgiving. Perhaps one can get by with crutches to mask the flavor but it shouldn't be necessary. I'm going to cut this with espresso beans to mask the flavor somewhat and try not to feel to bad about my wasted purchase. Will not buy any of their products again.

Best of the mass produced espresso bean coffee's
If you want a really dark deep southern italian espresso this is not the beans for you. This is a northern Italian espresso that is typical of what you get in Roma or Milano. The bags from Amazon come reasonably fresh and the free delivery is hard to beat. The coffee is consistent batch to batch, a 25 second extraction gives a reliable italian style espresso with a good machine. I use an exobar office lever with a mazzer mini mill and go through about 5 lbs a month. Kids and wife love it. I like it for mass market. PEET's espresso is better if you want a darker/stronger espresso, but commercially this is the best I have found

*NOT* a Dark Roast! *NOT* an Espresso Roast. More like Medium; not flavorful.
I bought this coffee expecting a dark roast to use in my espresso machine. I know it's an italian roast but it's much more medium to light than other italian roasts I've had. The color of the beans is similar to the top of the bag (a medium brown), not oily at all (in fact, they look completely dry). Whether this is normal or not for this roast, I don't know.
All the other italian, and dark/full-bodied roasts I've had have been much darker, bordering on blackish, and have at least some oil on the bean surface.
This coffee brews extremely light as an espresso. I'd say it's nutty and a bit sweet as well. Lacks depth & complexity. It is smooth, but so is water. There are no of those darker-roast flavors (smoky, chocolate, toast, etc.) or heartiness.
If you're a fan of espresso, french roast, sumatra, and other bold/dark-roasts, this coffee is not for you. I wish I could return this.

Nice Crema
Fine coffee. I alternate between Larry's organic single source beans and this coffee. This coffee generates more crema--probably due to the inclusion of robusta beans. Nice mild-ish flavor without sour notes in my PID-controlled Silvia.

I expected a lot from these beans after reading some of the reviews here on Amazon. I expected a rich, flavorful espresso bean. These beans appear to be under roasted. They are very light in appearance and don't have any of the customary oil that I find thinly coating other quality coffee beans. I still gave them a try, and the resulting brew did taste better than expected, but was nothing to write home about. They do make a very nice cup of regular coffee if ground using the 'course' setting of my bur grinder. I've decided to just use them for coffee as they make a pleasing cup of moderately strong coffee if you use enough beans. I use approximately twice as many beans as I do with the 100% Kona that is my usual bean to get coffee that tastes substantial. These beans also cost half as much as the Kono beans do, so I guess that's tolerable.
I would not recommend these for Espresso. For normal coffee they're fine, but still not in any way remarkable.

The whole beans version of Tierra is an excellent, 100% Arabica product made using the washed, green coffee, grown at medium to high-altitudes and checked at every stage of production. It yields a creamy, medium-body espresso characterized by aromatic notes and a floral sweetness.
Customer Review :
Very similar to Supercrema, but a little better in my opinion
I am still trying to find the perfect bean for making espresso. This is probably the closest I have come yet, at least to making espresso shots for lattes and cappuccinos. I have used the crema e aroma and the Supercrema. I like the Supercrema a lot, and this is very similar, but in my hands came out a little more smooth and a little less bitter. I grind with a LeLit Pl53 and brew on a Rancilio Silvia. My final verdict is that these shots are smooth enough to make milk-based drinks that need little-to no sweetener, as the shots (done properly) have very little or no bitterness. As far as drinking them as straight espresso, I would still like a little more body to each shot and maybe a little more complexity. However, as I am constantly refining my brew methods, it would not surprise me at all if I was still not reaching the full potential of these beans. Delicious!

Lavazza Tierra Coffee
I tried many types of coffees, and I must admit that Lavazza Tierra is the best. Full of flavour, with some hint of sweetness and of consistent quality.

Lovely Coffee
We ordered this coffee a few weeks ago and it is delicious. We like it much better than the Supercrema.

Not as good as Super Crema for straight espresso
My husband and I are big fans of Lavazza's Super Crema coffee, but got a bag of the Tierra blend recently while the Super Crema was out of stock. While the smell and color are wonderful, we found the Tierra 100% arabica blend to be much more bitter than our regular blend, and even after we added cream or milk to our coffee we felt unable to continue to drink it, so we gave it away after only a few brews (we are straight espresso drinkers otherwise). We have now received our regular Super Crema again and couldn't be happier.

Sour sour and then some
If you like the sour taste almost as if there is a lemon additive in your coffee... go for it! Not for me.

I AM TRYING TO FIND THE PERFECT COFFEE FOR MY TASTE. THIS COFFEE IS GOOD, BUT WOULD NOT BE MY FIRST CHOICE.

My favorite online coffee
Very nice roast. An aroma to die for. This is the best tasting whole bean I buy at Amazon. First time I bought it, beans looked a little dry. Nice smell, smallish amount for the price. I was skeptical. Well not any more.
These beans in a French Press are hard to beat. Smooth full flavor I just love. The price to wt. value is not that high. Well in line with others and the taste puts it above many others.
This is why I drink coffee.

great coffee but
there is a fruity taste, not my cup of tea, but a great coffee sticking to super crema.
Rating :
It was very weak and barely drinkable in my opinion
This was my first time with Lavazza. The coffee was weak, light, flavor was OK but not what I was expecting from an Italian coffee. With the milk (cappuccino) it was barely present as taste. I drink cappuccinos every day and I use a very good espresso machine and I can change the type of grind, and the strength and all that. No matter what combination I used it was just barely Ok. If I could I would have returned the coffee.

The Quality is Gone...
Lavazza Qualita Oro (Gold Quality) USED to be better, more authentic, more robust, more pronounced, more reliable as one of the traditional Italian roasts from Italy.
In both a classic espresso, and when making a latte or a cappuccino, this label was an old reliable. I found my recent purchase to be a huge disappointment, lacking in aroma but more so, a weak, flat and downright dull cup of coffee. I do not know what has been done to lessen the quality, but I now regret not spending a few more dollars and getting something much more enjoyable, such as Illy.
Be aware that as a grocery item, Amazon will not accept a purchase such as this for returns.
Very disappointing.

Questions & Answers
Question : Does anyone have a suggestion on what model and brand of home coffee roaster I should purchase?
I want to buy a coffee roaster for my husband for his birthday. The problem is that I have no idea what one to get. He is REALLY into his coffee being freshly roasted and has a friend who roasts his own and just loves it. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. My husband is a wonderful, hardworking man who deserves a special gift.
Answer:
I've been roasting for years.I started with the Fresh Roast 8http://www.sweetmarias.com/prod.freshroast.phpIt is great for a first-time roaster, but it can't do large nough amounts for someone who drinks a lot of coffee. Mine lasted for about 4 years with plenty of use.For larger amounts try the Gene Cafehttp://www.sweetmarias.com/prod.genecafe.phpIt will let him do plenty of roasting and gives plenty of control. My current method is actually the cheapest, but I actually enjoy the hands-on of it. I now use a heat gun.http://www.homeroaster.com/heatgun.htmlhttp://www.ineedcoffee.com/04/heatgun/http://www.instruct ables.com/id/SZ2TY3EF3GAG1LS/This you have to do outside as there is a lot of smoke & chaf gets everywhere, but I love it. My method is a little different than what's described. I bought a strainer that fits the rim of a steel bowl perfectly. It allows the hot air to circulate better. I can roast a weeks worth of coffee in about 20-30 minutes.Update: Yeah, VC, I get almost all my green from them.

Question : How do you become a master coffee Roaster?
Is there a school or what
Answer:
Your best option would be to start on the ground floor with one of the best new independent coffee roasters in the industry (like stumptown, intelligentsia, and others) and learn from them, as apprentice so-to-say. There is a tremendous amount to learn, not just about roasting , but about the coffee itself. You've really got to understand the bean in order to bring out the right characteristics during the roast. Tom at Sweet Marias is an excellent source of information for the home roaster so feel free to ask him, and others in the industry, for advice.
